Welcome to Bike Shed Racing @bikeshedracing Round 3 at Thruxton @thruxtonracing ! The turnout today was fantastic, with six out of seven of our race team members showing up to share their love for some exhilarating Crit 4 racing. What a great way to build team spirit and improve our rankings! 💪

It was another week of progress and new experiences, with the team climbing higher on the leaderboard. A huge shoutout to everyone for playing it safe (well, mostly!) and displaying great sportsmanship on the track. Despite a few close calls, the event was a massive success. Congrats to all the winners, organisers, and supporters for their efforts! 👏🏆

Time to give some kudos to our team! Congratulations to Thomas for an impressive 13th place finish, Paul for grabbing 18th, Jamie for clinching 23rd, Kyle with a solid 35th, Rafal at 45th, and Tom at 75th who had some turbulence with three laps to go but still finished strong! 🎉

We can’t wait to show you our new race kit and reveal our amazing sponsors for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. It’s going to be a thrilling ride ahead, and we’re just getting started. 🏎

What a fantastic (but chilly 🥶) Saturday morning!

This weekend, a notable spike in our demo ride participation. A warm welcome to Matthew, Harry and Chilili! It’s great to have you with us. A special shoutout to Matthew, who enjoyed the demo so much that he became a member straight after the ride! Welcome to the team, Matthew! 🌟

Today’s turnout was a big one—we might have stopped counting, but it certainly felt like one of our biggest yet! We organised five groups heading out to Velolife @velolife in Warren Row, with a diverse set of paces catered to everyone’s comfort and challenge levels:

🚴‍♂️ Casual G2 led by Sirous
🚴‍♂️ 2x G3 groups managed by Guven and Gary D.
🚴‍♂️ G4 paced by Ash
🚴‍♂️ And the ever-spicy G5 taken on by Terence!

The route was flat and friendly, perfect for those hitting new distance milestones. Congratulations to everyone who achieved their longest ride ever, nearly 90KM! Well done to all! 👏

Looking forward to tomorrow, we have another social ride lined up, and it’s shaping up to be just as busy as today with 4x demo riders already locked in!

With glorious weather in our favour, the Surrey Cycling Club Race Team made significant strides in the rankings. 🌞🚴

Cheers to Paul @paulcorby88 who zoomed into 33rd place - just 5 seconds away from the 1st place! Well done to Rafal @rafalkukla who spiritedly clinched 69th, and Tom @vrsdude who closely followed at 76th. This impressive progress from last week’s race speaks volumes about their dedication and hard work. Big congrats to all! 👏👏

Our team currently comprises seven determined members, and we’re thrilled to share that we anticipate more membres joining us at next Tuesday’s race. It promises to be a fantastic gathering of passion and pedal power – the more the merrier! 🎉

17 of our club members, divided into two groups, embarked on a thrilling adventure to conquer the Surrey Hills. Covering 125KM and a whopping 2000 meters of elevation, nearly all of us completed the full route. A shoutout to Ben – even a snapped carbon handlebar couldn’t keep him down! After a quick dash home for his second bike, he rejoined his group at Box Hill by tackling the route in reverse. And yes, he made it! That’s the spirit, Ben! 👏🚵‍♂️

What a Saturday it’s been! Possibly our biggest

What a Saturday it’s been! Possibly our biggest turnout of the year with an almost 40 club members gearing up for an great day of cycling through the challenging terrains of Surrey Hills.

Beyond our intense Legs of Steel (LOS) group, our G3 team saw significant action today, boasting nearly 18 members. To manage the crowd, we split into two groups, with G2 not far behind.

Together, they tackled the three popular hills of Surrey Hills: Staple Lane, Green Dene, and Newlands Corner. While not quite as gruelling as the Legs of Steel route, today’s ride still pushed many to achieve new records and personal bests we seen on Strava. Kudos and cheers to all for those longest rides and personal achievements! 🎉

And the excitement doesn’t stop there! Tomorrow, we’ve got 16 members eagerly awaiting our Social ride to Windsor. Expect a scenic route followed by some well-deserved buns and coffee at Cinnamon Cafe. ☕🍞

What a day for a comeback! After last year’s weather-related cancellation, our much-anticipated “Legs of Steel” annual club event finally took place, and it was nothing short of spectacular.

With the sun out and temperatures perfect for short sleeves and bib-shorts, it truly felt like the official start of the cycling season!

17 of our club members, divided into two groups, embarked on a thrilling adventure to conquer the Surrey Hills. 🏁 Race Update from Surrey Cycling Club Race Team! 🏁

Yesterday, we tackled our very first race as a team at the exhilarating Bike Shed Racing @bikeshedracing @thruxtonracing Round 1. Despite the fickle British weather throwing cloudy skies, gusty winds, and last-minute rain showers our way, we witnessed some splendid rainbow views just before the race commenced.

Navigating the course was a true test of skill and endurance, especially with about 90/100 passionate cyclists at the start line. The sections with a 2-4% incline paired with the brutal headwind made for a challenging yet thrilling experience. But, as always, our team rose to the occasion with resilience and determination.

A massive round of applause to all the winners, organisers and everyone who participated. A special shoutout to our own champions – Paul @paulcorby88 Tom @vrsdude and Rafal @rafalkukla – for representing us with such tenacity and spirit! 🎉👏

But let’s not forget, this is just the beginning. With incredible partners on board and a fresh new Race Kit in the works by our friends at Kalas @kalas_sportswear the 2024 and 2025 seasons are looking bright. Stay tuned for more exciting updates coming your way.

Sunday the 7th brought with it a gusty challenge, as the wind decided to show us its full force. 🌬️

Unfortunately, we had to put our Social rides on pause this morning. Not to worry, though – we’ll be back in full swing next weekend!

This morning, we launched into our first training session, the G6 race pace ride. Covering a 43KM route known well to those who rides with us at Berkshire Gregario Fights on Tuesdays nights!

The strong winds made it a challenge to hit our usual pace and average speed. Yet, every pedal stroke was a testament to our determination, turning the ride into a solid workout. 🚴‍♂️💪

It was also brilliant to have Kyle our latest member and Ed join us for a race demo ride. 💪🏻 And of course it’s great to see our regulars 🫡

To cap off the morning, we enjoyed a relaxed ride to Cinnamon @cinnamoncafewindsor for some well-deserved buns and coffee. A perfect end to a hard session. ☕️

What a weekend it’s been! Apart from making a splash at the Mayor’s Cycle Fun Day in Staines, we had an incredible turnout for our club rides, showcasing the strength of our Club!

Our G2 and G3 teams embarked on a scenic 70KM Legoland loop, including a stop at Lammas Park in Staines. This wasn’t just a pit stop; it was a chance to support our club’s presence at the event and strengthen our ties within the local community.

A huge welcome to Radu, Rod, and Craig who joined us for a demo ride – it was great to have you with us. And a warm welcome back to Kyle and Jacky, who have recently taken the step from demo riders to full members. Your enthusiasm is what makes our club so special! 🤗

Not to be outdone, our G4/5 team ventured on a slightly more daunting adventure to Velobarn @thevelobarn - Group tackled a 120KM route peppered with rolling hills, facing a total of 1200 meters of elevation and battling against strong winds. It was no easy feat, but as always, when we ride together, we go further. The teamwork and camaraderie on display were truly inspiring. 💪🚵‍♀️

Happy Weekend, everyone! We’re thrilled to share not just about our club rides, but a special part of our journey - our first public stall at the Mayor’s Cycle Fun Day in Staines! A massive shout-out to Spelthorne Borough Council @spelthorneboroughcouncil for organising this wonderful event and for welcoming us.

We had an incredible day engaging with so many people, from those new to road cycling to ex-racers. It was an honour to meet the Mayor of Spelthorne and share our passion for cycling with the community. 🤝🚴‍♂️

Today was a celebration of local communities and families coming together, filled with a variety of fun activities. Highlights included bike security marking by the fantastic Surrey Police 🚨team @surreypolice , cycling lessons, arts and crafts, a decorate your bike competition, scooter and skateboard workshops, the Cycling for Health scheme, bike recycling, and the ever-popular smoothie bike. Not to mention, delicious coffee, snacks, and Mini-Golf provided by the Little Green Boat Company! @littlegreenboatcompany ☕️🚲

We hope everyone had as fantastic a day as we did. Events like these remind us of the joy and community spirit that cycling brings.

Today was a testament to the fact that spring has well and truly sprung! The sunshine graced us with its presence, making for a glorious morning ride. First off, a big welcome to Craig and Jacky who joined our G3 team for the first time. It was fantastic having you both, and we’re eager to ride with you again! 🌟

Our route today may have been short, but it packed a punch! Like a rollercoaster, it was filled with punchy hills and downhills.

Covering 60KM to Peaslake with just under 700 meters of elevation, we navigated our way in 4 groups – 2x G3, G4, and G5, all converging for a mid-point stop in Peaslake for some well-deserved coffee and snacks before making our way back to Weybridge. ☕

Excited for more? Tomorrow, we’ve got another fantastic route planned, slightly longer than usual for those who missed out on Friday and Saturday’s rides. Join us for the Social and Social+ rides into Surrey Hills, with a stop at Denbies! 🚴‍♀️🍇

Happy Easter, everyone! Wondering how we spent our Bank Holiday Weekend? Let’s dive into our 3rd Annual New Forest Trip adventure this Good Friday, 29th!

Despite the daunting weather conditions leading up to Friday, which saw our numbers dwindle from 32 to 14 brave souls, we took the risk – and what a fantastic decision that was! 🌧️➡️🌞

Starting from Ringwood, we embarked on the Wiggle’s Sportive 100 route. The journey took us through breathtaking scenery, with a delightful midway stop at Lyndhurst. Right next to the Ferrari salon, we discovered a car colour that matches our club’s! But, on second thought, we reaffirmed our love for two wheels. 🚗💨➡️🚴‍♂️❤️

The day was nothing short of amazing, covering over 100KM with just over 700 meters of climbing. A massive congratulations to everyone who took part – your spirit and determination made it a truly happy day out, filled with kudos and achievements. 🏆

🚀 Distance Covered: 9,945 km - We’ve practically traced the outline of Great Britain, and then some, on our bikes. Who needs GPS when you have SCC?

🏔️ Elevation Achieved: 61,708 m - We’ve collectively scaled the heights equivalent to climbing Mount Kilimanjaro... twice! And all without leaving Surrey.

⏰ Time in the Saddle: 398 hours - That’s enough time to watch the entire Giro d’Italia... and still have time for a few victory laps of your own.

👥 Active Members This Week: 81 out of 129 - Matching our high score in membership activity. It’s like we’re all sprinting in a grand tour!

🤔 To our 48 gearing-up members - Remember, your saddle is lonelier without you. It’s time for a joyous reunion!

🏆 This Week’s Spotlight Cyclist: Felipe, breezing through 330 km! Felipe, making it to the leaderboard like a true breakaway champion. Was there a secret tailwind only you knew about? Because that’s some serious pace setting! 🌬️🚴‍♂️

Ever wondered what it’s like to battle a strong headwind for 60KM or to ride through a hailstorm with ice blasting against your face? Well, our G4 riders don’t need to wonder anymore! On today’s adventurous ride to Reading and the Three Mile Cross route, they experienced just that. Covering nearly 140KM with 700 meters of elevation, they faced strong headwinds and a freezing hailstorm – talk about a ride to remember! 🌨️🚵‍♂️

Meanwhile, our G2, G3, and G4 regulars ventured to the Surrey Hills alongside our very own Staple Lane legend, Felipe @felipe.tapia.18062 to enjoy a visit to The Dabbling Duck @thedabblingduck in Shere, navigating through the infamous Staple Lane. 🌳

A huge shoutout to Eleanor 👋🏻 who joined us for her very first demo ride. And let’s not forget Kyle 💪🏻 who fearlessly joined our G4 team, braving both hail and wind like a true champ. Last but certainly not least, a big welcome back to Rob 🥳, who came along for his second demo and has already made the leap to become a full member of our club! Your journey with us is just beginning, and we’re thrilled to have you on board.

🌸 Spring Reflections & Celebrating Growth at Surrey Cycling Club! 💛

As the spring season blossoms, it's a time for reflection at Surrey Cycling Club. With our club year ending on the 31st of March, we've taken a moment to look back at our journey, the challenges we've faced, and most importantly, the growth and strength of our community.

We're thrilled to announce some fantastic achievements:

🟢 Our club has doubled in size from last year, growing from 63 to a remarkable 127 members!

🟢 We've seen a significant increase in female participation, with women's presence in the club skyrocketing by about 475% since March 2023! This brings our female participation rate to over 18%, surpassing some other local clubs ratio. 💪🚴‍♀️

🟢 Our Ride Leaders team has expanded to 16, with ambitions to reach 20 in the coming months. Impressively, 99% of our ride leaders are now First Aid trained, with plans to have everyone fully qualified at Level 1 and 2 by British Cycling later this year.

🟢 We currently have 2 female ride leaders and are keen to welcome more to our ranks!

📈 Additionally, a fun fact to share – we've surpassed 1,000 Demo Ride Email Invites, with the count now standing at 1,451 and still growing!

This growth and enthusiasm within our club couldn't make us prouder. It's a testament to the vibrant, supportive, and inclusive environment we strive to cultivate.
