As our Isle of Wight trip was approaching fast, we decided to take on an even bigger challenge. Inspired by our friends at GCN, Conor and Ollie, who tackled the epic feat in their episode Sunrise to Sunset | Could You Ride 200 Miles In One Day? back in 2021, we set out to cycle from Weybridge to Portsmouth, ride around the Isle of Wight, and then make the journey back to Weybridge - a whopping 320+ KM Audax ride!

We started in the dark, setting off from Weybridge at 5:30am. The trip to Portsmouth was perfectly executed, with the group maintaining an average speed of approximately 30 kph to make the ferry crossing on time. Everything was calculated down to the minute, and when we arrived in Ryde, we were greeted by another 30 members who were just starting their ride around the Island.

Our first lunch stop was at The Needles, which marked the halfway point of our adventure at around 170 KM. After a much-needed 40-minute break, we continued our journey. The conditions around the Island were generally good, though overcast with occasional short showers.

We raced back to Ryde for the 4:15pm ferry, making it with only a few minutes to spare! After crossing back to Portsmouth, we embarked on the final leg of our journey - 100KM back to Weybridge with 900 meters of climbing. The last 30 KM were particularly tough; the chit-chat stopped, and everyone had their heads down, pushing through the wind and focusing on getting home.

We finally reached the Hand and Spear just before 9 PM, with a total moving time of 10:58:17 and an average speed of almost 29 km/h with over 3200m of total elevation!

It was an incredible day filled with strong camaraderie and a fantastic group effort. We’re already looking forward to our next big adventure!

Our Annual Isle of Wight trip was absolutely amazing this year! We had the biggest turnout ever, with over 35 club members and guests meeting up in Portsmouth for an unforgettable ride around the Isle of Wight. This year, we rode anti-clockwise, covering a total of 117KM with over 1500 meters of elevation!

It was an incredible day with many members achieving their longest rides ever. With multiple groups to choose from, everyone had a fantastic time on the saddle!

Our Saturday club ride was short and pretty fast!

Our Saturday club ride was short and pretty fast! Despite the cloudy weather, we had a great turnout as multiple groups headed to Dorney Lake, with a stop at Cinnamon Cafe Windsor @cinnamoncafewindsor

We kept it short for a reason! A 70KM loop meant most people were back before 11am, giving them enough time to get ready for our annual Summer drinking night with our members, friends and their families. We had an amazing turnout with over 60 people enjoying each other’s company. A big thanks to Hand and Spear @handandspearpub for your hospitality! It was a fantastic evening, and it was great to see and meet everyone, their friends, and family!

We are slowly gearing up for our annual trip to the Isle of Wight at the end of August! In the meantime, we have a few weekends left with some amazing routes planned for the entire month of August.

Our Wednesday evening session was quite an interesting one!

We had one solid group heading towards the Surrey Hills, conquering Staple Lane, and our Chain-Gang session for those seeking speed. 🔥

It was great to see Steve @stevedavis82 join us last night. He usually races in Abu Dhabi @the_adbandits , and added a bit of spice 🌶️ to our session! 🥵

We actually had two Paceline groups: one averaging an admirable 35km/h over almost 50Km, and the other just around 38km/h!

These Paceline rides around Windsor have proven to be excellent training grounds for our members. If you don’t hold the wheel, you’re out! 🔥😂

Many PBs, trophies 🏆, and fun riding with the club!

Our Saturday rides are seeing fantastic participation, with numbers growing every month. This weekend, almost 40 members gathered for a unified ride to Henley, with a delightful stop at the Chocolate Cafe. @chocolatecafehenley

Thanks to our amazing ride leaders, we split into 5 groups, each with a unique pace and intensity, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

We saw many personal bests, longer distances, and fastest 50K and 100K achievements among our members. A warm welcome to Peter, who joined us for his G4 demo ride and loved it!

Post-ride, we always meet up for some well-deserved drinks and to cool off.

We hope you had a fantastic weekend, just like we did! On Saturday, we had an exciting schedule with over 30 members split into 5 groups, catering to various abilities and paces.

Three of our groups headed to Oakhanger, visiting The Chocolate Frog Cafe @chocolatefrogcompany . It was an amazing route, just under 120KM with nearly 1000 meters of elevation!

Meanwhile, two groups rode to Cookham with a delightful stop at Flat Harry's.

🏁 Epic Night at the CANYON Guildford Town Centre Races! 🏁

What an amazing evening of racing we had last night at the CANYON #Guildford Town Centre! It was our very own Jamie’s first time competing in this electrifying event, making it a night to remember for Surrey Cycling Club 😎

Jamie took part in the fiercely competitive Greyfriars Vineyard Local Heroes Open Race (3rd Cats only), where about 70 courageous riders pushed their limits. Jamie described the race as “savage”—it was full gas from start to finish! He performed admirably, securing a respectable 43rd place amidst tough competition. Well done, Jamie! 🚴‍♂️👏

Huge congratulations to Max Duckworth for clinching first place in this intense race. An incredible performance indeed!🥇

The event also featured a variety of youth races, including the Under 8 Girls and Open Race, The Chantries and Pewleys Under 10, Under 12, and Under 14 Boys and Girls Races, as well as the Under 16 Open Race. Each race was a thrill to watch, showcasing the budding talent and sportsmanship of our young cyclists. The evening concluded with the exhilarating Elite Race, rounding off a fantastic showcase of cycling skill and spirit. 💥🤯

A big shout-out to all the winners and participants—your efforts made the evening truly special for all race fans! 👏🎉

This event has sparked even more enthusiasm within our club, and we’re looking forward to getting even more members involved next year. What a night to inspire and celebrate the joy of cycling!

Throwback Thursday! #tbt

Just a few snaps from our second Tour De France trip to Malaucène, where 22 members spent 4 epic days exploring routes and climbs, including the legendary Mont Ventoux! We also visited Tom Simpson’s Memorial and left our bottle as a symbol of respect. 🫡

Tom Simpson was a British professional cyclist, renowned for his diverse racing career, which included winning the 1965 World Road Race Championship and Paris-Nice in 1967. Tragically, he died during the 1967 Tour de France on the ascent of Mont Ventoux due to a combination of exhaustion, extreme heat, and amphetamines. His legacy is a reminder of the challenges and dangers of professional cycling, especially on demanding climbs like Mont Ventoux.

Our G5 group set off at 7am for a century ride to Brighton. Despite a few punctures and mechanical issues, our spirits remained high. We stopped at The Archive, a fantastic bike-friendly coffee spot, before tackling Ditchling Beacon. After conquering the Beacon, we arrived in Brighton for a well-deserved break.

The 180KM route with 2000 meters of elevation was a true test of endurance. Special thanks to Tanya and Hannah for the mid-ride yoga session at Turners Hill during a puncture repair!

Epic Century Ride to Brighton! 🌊🐚🏖️

As we mentioned earlier, our G5 group met bright and early at 6:45am for a 7am start, aiming for a century ride to Brighton. The adventure began with a puncture before we even left the meeting point! 🫣 Despite that, and a total of three punctures and other mechanical issues along the way, our spirits remained high.

Our first stop was at what we now consider one of the best bike-friendly coffee spots – The Archive @thearchive.works . It’s an amazing place, and we highly recommend it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Continuing on, we faced the challenge of Ditchling Beacon. Many rushed for their PBs, knowing it might be the last chance this year. After conquering the Beacon, we arrived in Brighton for a well-deserved break, proper food, and some fuel.

The route totaled 180KM with 2000 meters of elevation. We maintained a decent pace throughout, averaging above 28kph! Everyone did an amazing job, showcasing fantastic teamwork.

Some members even stretched their legs to hit the 200KM mark. Incredible effort, everyone!

Special mention to Tanya and Hannah for the impromptu mid-ride yoga session at Turners Hill 😂 – a perfect way to pass the time during a puncture repair! 👨‍🔧

It was a long day, with legs shattered but spirits high. Thanks, everyone, for the amazing company and for creating such wonderful memories!
